چکیده

MATHia X is the next generation implementation of Carnegie Learning’s Cognitive Tutor (CT), a widely deployed, researchbased mathematics curriculum that has provided data for many educational data mining studies. While many researchers are familiar with the basic operation of the system, there are several features that may affect analysis and interpretation of data that are less well known. We describe features of MATHia X and CT, as well as aspects of its practical implementation in real-world classrooms, that may be important for researchers using MATHia X and CT datasets.

Automating Next-Step Hints Generation Using ASTUS

ASTUS is an authoring framework designed to create model-tracing tutors with similar efforts to those needed to create Cognitive Tutors. Its knowledge representation system was designed to model the teacher’s point of view of the task and to be manipulated by task independent processes such as the automatic generation of sophisticated pedagogical feedback. The first type of feedback we automate...

Review of intelligent tutoring systems using bayesian approach

With advancement in computer science research on artificial intelligence and in cognitive psychology research on human learning and performance, the next generation of computerbased tutoring systems moved beyond the simple presentation of pages of text or graphics. These new intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) called cognitive tutors; incorporated modeltracing technology which is a cognitive mo...

A data collection framework for capturing ITS data based on an agent communication standard

We describe our experience developing a flexible architecture for collecting interaction data for a medical cognitive tutoring system. The architecture encompasses (1) an agent-based communications system for passing messages between all tutor components, as well as capturing and storing them in relational format, (2) a schema for managing all system data from low-level interface events to stud...

Reciprocal tutoring using cognitive tools

Reciprocal tutoring, where peers take turns to tutor each other, is an interesting style of social learning. In the Reciprocal Tutoring System (RTS), three computational cognitive tools were designed to facilitate reciprocal tutoring of Lisp programming on the network. The first is a Petal-style of code–chunk interface, with which a tutee can enter Lisp code without making syntactic errors. The...

Expanding the Model-Tracing Architecture: A 3 Generation Intelligent Tutor for Algebra Symbolization

Following Computer Aided Instruction systems, 2 nd generation tutors are Model-Tracing Tutors (MTTs) (Anderson & Pelletier, 1991) which are intelligent tutoring systems that have been very successful at aiding student learning, but have not reached the level of performance of experienced human tutors (Anderson et al., 1995). To that end, this paper presents a new architecture called ATM ("Addin...
